Watts all the buzz about LED Lighting?

Watts all the buzz about LED LIghting?

Every time we turn around we are hearing about energy efficiency and faced with the question…Are we being as energy efficient as possible? Whether it is your hot water heater, appliances, or lighting, energy efficiency has become a hot topic of conversation and something that we often think about in our homes. But how about where you work?

If work is where we spend most of our waking hours, we should be equally observant about being energy efficient there as well. Sure, there are companies out there that are looking for ways to be as energy efficient as possible but how many times have you walked into an office where the light is on and no one in in the office….what about the restroom?

Not one facility or person is 100% proficient so there are always ways that we can improve, especially when it comes to energy efficiency.

LED Lighting Upgrades

One of the ways that companies can become more energy efficient is through LED Lighting Upgrades, both interior and exterior.

According to Energy.gov, “Widespread use of LED lighting has the greatest potential impact on energy savings in the United States. By 2027, widespread use of LEDs could save about 348 KWH (compared to no LED use) of electricity: This is the equivalent annual electrical output of 44 large electric power plants (1000 megawatts each), and a total savings of more than $30 billion at today’s electricity prices.” (https://www.energy.gov/energysaver/save-electricity-and-fuel/lighting-choices-save-you-money/led-lighting)

$30 billion in savings! What would you do with $30 billion? While your business or the company that you work for will not experience a $30 billion saving for switching to LED, there are substantial savings available.

Rebates

Utility companies such as PPL are encouraging commercial customers to make the switch to more energy efficient lighting by offering rebates. Over the past number of years, these rebates have become substantial with some customers experiencing pay backs for lighting upgrades of less than 1 year.
