Tips for When the Power Goes Out

Bad weather that results in power outages can strike at any time… sometimes literally with a lightning strike. But also sometimes high winds, downed lines, or even accidents can cause you to lose power.

Here are some tips to keep in mind when the power goes out: 

1. Call your local utility to report power outages

2. Do not use Gas Ovens or Ranges to Heat Your Home

3. Stay Clear of Down or Low Hanging Power Lines

4. Avoid Standing Water where there is electronic equipment

5. Use flashlights instead of candles

6. Unplug Electronics and Appliances

7. Avoid opening your refrigerator and freezer as much as possible

8. Wear Layers of clothing to keep in body heat

9. Have a battery/solar phone charger
