On Sunday, March 10th, Daylight Savings time started, and we “sprung” our clocks ahead an hour. While we lost an hour of sleep Sunday night, it means that spring is right around the corner.
Each spring and fall when we change our clocks, we hear news anchors and fire departments reminding us to test our smoke and carbon monoxide detectors as well as change the batteries in them.
Did you know that in 1969, the same year that Lapp Electric was founded, “BRK Electronics (who would later launch the First Alert® brand) designed the first battery-operated smoke alarm to receive a UL (Underwriters Laboratories Inc.) Listing”? (My Smoke Alarm)
Another interesting fact about smoke detectors is that 26 years later in 1995, the 10-year-lithium-battery-powered smoke alarm was invented and the “NFPA began requiring the replacement of smoke detectors after ten years in 1999.”
So, did you test your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors over the weekend. If not, what are you waiting for? Test them now (it is okay, you are free to get up and test them now…we will be here when you get back).
When was the last time you had your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors replaced? If it has been over 10 years, contact your electrical contractor of choice to receive a quote to have new detectors installed or Contact Us. We would love to help you out with replacing your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Give us a call at 717.392.0804 to set up an appointment for an estimate.
50 years in business is something to be celebrated and each week via social media we are going to be doing just that as 2019 marks 50 years in business for Lapp Electric.
Each week we are also going to summarize our social media posts on our Blog.
If you did not have a chance, be sure to check out last week’s post:
Lapp Electric Turns 50 – Week 9 (Emergency Service, Panel Stickers & Perseverance)
Work Site
For a company that averages over 2500 jobs a year, picking out 52 job sites may be a challenge, but we look forward to sharing with you some memorable jobs over the past 50 years.
Over the years we have done a lot of work at McDonald’s locations.
This includes service work as well as builds, remodels and rebuilds.
For our 10th edition of #WorkSiteWednesday, we took a look back at the McDonald’s in York project.
We are not sure the exact year this project was completed but by the decor we think it was either the 1970s or 1980s.
52 Memories of 50 Years
Before we had a bucket truck, we had a ladder truck (see below).
We are not sure of the exact year the ladder truck was purchased but before it was ready for the road, like all Lapp Electric vehicles, it had to be “Lapperized”.
If you ever have a chance to talk to any of our seasoned Lapp employees, ask them if they remember the ladder truck. The stories they tell are awesome.
