Lapp Electric Turns 50 – Week 21 (GSM Industrial, Apprenticeship Graduations & Perseverance

2019 is a special year for Lapp Electric as we are celebrating our 50th year in business.

To celebrate we are looking back at the year 1969, the year Lapp Electric was founded, to find out what life was like and what was going on in Lancaster County, the Country and the World. We are also reflecting on memories of the past 50 years and memorable job sites.

Since yesterday was Memorial Day, we decided to look up on what date Memorial Day fell on in 1969, and we found that it occurred on Friday, May 30th. Now…you may be a little confused because you thought Memorial Day fell on the last Monday of the month of May.

Here are some other interesting facts about Memorial Day that we found out… “Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day. The current name for this day did not come into use until after World War II. Decoration Day and then Memorial Day used to be held on May 30, regardless of the day of the week, on which it fell. In 1968, the Uniform Holidays Bill was passed as part of a move to use federal holidays to create three-day weekends. This meant that, from 1971, Memorial Day holiday has been officially observed on the last Monday in May. However, it took a longer period for all American states to recognize the new date.”

If you have not been tracking with us over the past 21 weeks as we have been looking back at our 50-year history, now is the time to get caught up.

Work Site

A number of years ago, we did a job at GSM Industrial. We are not sure the exact year the project was completed but the pictures below were taken with a polaroid camera so we know it was awhile ago.

52 Memories of 50 Years

This past week, we had our first team member graduate from the Central Pennsylvania Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) Apprenticeship Program to become a Journeyman Electrician.

This was not the first team member to graduate from an Apprenticeship Program and become a Journeyman Electrician, but it was the first to graduate from the IEC Program.

Up until 2014, Lapp Electric was a part of ABC Keystone and our apprentices went through the ABC Apprenticeship Program. Starting in 2014, we transition to the IEC and on Thursday, May 23rd we had our first team member graduate from the program.

We are extremely proud of all of our team members who have graduated from the Apprenticeship programs over the years so our memory this week was about Apprenticeship Graduations.
