Have you ever wondered when the first ATM (also known as Automated Teller Machine) was installed in the United States?
If you guessed 1969, you would be correct.
September 2nd will mark the 50th anniversary of the first ATM being installed at Chemical Bank in Rockville Centre in New York.
“On Sept. 2 our bank will open at 9:00 and never close again.” was a slogan used by Chemical Bank to introduce the new technology back in 1969.
Just a month prior on August 1st, 1969, Lapp Electric opened for business and like Chemical Bank, “never closed again.” While it was just Manny Lapp at first…service was his goal, so it did not matter what time, day or night, he would be there to help you out.
This idea of service, day or night, is something that we continue to live by. We offer 24-hour emergency service and live by our slogan #LappToTheRescue.
While we have regular business hours, like Bank branches today maintain regular business hours, our on-call technicians are like ATM’s helping you out at all hours.
52 Memories of 50 Years
Last week’s memory took us back to the 1980s. We sponsored a race car and had our name on the side of the car as part of an early marketing campaign to spread the word about Lapp Electric as well as show our support for the community.
Work Site
Our #WorkSiteWednesday highlight last week took us back to the year 1980. This was a special Work Site Highlight because it was when we built our shop at 200 Witmer Road.
In true Manny Lapp fashion, he was his own general contractor and oversaw the entire project.
We were at the 200 Witmer Road location until around 2004 when we moved down the street to 2420 Gehman Lane (our present location).
